A helpful hint of the day!

Ok - our guests always have the best ideas on how to be creative with their dinners. Here are a few tips I've heard recently and I thought I'd share!

For Burritos & Enchilladas: Instead of wrapping them in the store, layer the ingrediants in the pan, similar to a lasagna. Then there is no fight over the 'extra' burrito if you have only 2 people for a 3 serving meal.

Also, if you always find you have leftovers and prefer this dish when it is fresh, while the 'lasagna' is still frozen - pull it out of the aluminum pan & cut it in half. Then put half back in a bag or the pan into the freezer & put the other half in your own casserole dish to heat according to the instructions! Now you have 2 fresh dinners with no leftovers. Perfect!

Kids in the Kitchen!

Looking for a fun and exciting day camp for you child this summer? We’ve got a fun and productive way for your child to spend the day!

Sign up your child for our kids in the kitchen ‘class’ this summer. We are holding 2 sessions, July 8th & August 5 from 9am—n00n.
You order your months worth of meals, (minimum order 36 servings) then drop off your child, age 8 or older at our store and we will work with them to not only assemble your dinners, but to learn about food handling, personal hygiene, measuring and much more!

Lunch will be assembled by the participants and cooked in the store for them!

Business to Business Expo

Join Dream Dinners tomorrow along with many other businesses in Oxnard at the Performing Arts Center for an evening of networking and learn about what businesses have to offer in our area. There will be tasting from Dream Dinners as well as other local restaurants and caterers.

SF Family Fitness Examiner: Make time to eat dinner as a family

We all know the importance of family meal time. I found this great article that once again makes me remember that what we do at Dream Dinners is such a vital service!

"According to research conducted by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, kids who consistently eat dinner with their families tend to make healthier food choices and are less likely to be overweight simply because parents offer more nutritionally balanced meals. Kids don't usually remind themselves to eat their vegetables, right?
The study points out that kids who regularly eat dinner with their families do better in school and are less likely to smoke, drink alcohol and take drugs."

See you at the Boys & Girls Club's Garden Party

Join us at the Garden Party and enjoy tastes from local restaurants, confectioners and wineries. The afternoon will also include live entertainment and a silent auction featuring baskets, art and much more. Tickets are on sale now & are only $50 in advance or $60 at the door.

All proceeds go to support the local Boys & Girls Club allowing them to provide vital programs for the local youth.

Earth Day

Earth Day is coming soon and we will be at the festival on April 18th at the Ventura Promenade!

On Saturday, April 18th, 2009 Ventura will host a family-friendly community celebration and green products expo - "Earth Day Every Day 2009". This fun and informative event is being sponsored by Ventura Charter School of Arts and Global Education www.venturacharterschool.org/earthday) and the City of Ventura (www.cityofventura.net).
“Earth Day Every Day” will have music, entertainment, activities, environmental exhibits and workshops for the whole family.
